DISCOVER THE 4 SOULS OF BAUNEI

  • THE SEA

The Baunei coast, one of the most captivating in Sardinia, has splendid oases nestled between the sea and the rocks, sheer cliffs dotted with coves or “cale” and beaches that are the real jewels of the Mediterranean. The coves of Cala Goloritzè, Cala Mariolu, Cala Biriola, Cala dei Gabbiani, are easily reached by boat or by renting a dinghy from the little tourist port in Santa Maria Navarrese, 5 km from Baunei, so you can experience a little bit of paradise with breath-taking colours. Then there are the splendid beaches of Tancau, Porto Frailis, Cea, and Orrì easily reached by car and equally jaw-dropping in their beauty.
  • THE MOUNTAINS

As much as the glimpses of the coast in the Baunei area are can often take your breath away, the sea is not all Baunei has to offer. Above residential Baunei, you find the Altopiano del Golgo (Golgo Plateau) where horses, donkeys, wild boar and goats roam freely among the oaks and the myrtles, making it a wonderful place for nature walks. There are also many trekking paths beginning in Baunei, which follow the tracks once left by shepherds and coalmen at the beginning of the last century and then lead to Goloritzè, Sisine, and Mariolu coves. The area is also famous for great climbing routes with sheer drops to the sea, ideal for sporting experts.
  • TRADITION

Popular dances of stately elegance, complex dialects that not only forge a way of speaking, but a mentality too, pagan rites, games played on the streets and ancient culinary practices. Baunei tradition has many facets, passed down from generation to generation, mostly orally and in terms of values and beliefs. It is a tradition to be seen with your own eyes and experienced in your own skin, letting yourself go in this timeless world.
  • CULTURE

A backdrop of the Gennargentu mountains and the clear waters have allowed the province of Ogliastra to faithfully pass on the authenticity of the ancient flavours that can still be tasted there. Ogliastra province boasts an ample tradition of pasta making with its “culurgiones”, quality meats, a tradition of cured pork and of cheeses made from the milk of sheep and goats, not to mention of desserts that are known and loved all over the world. The distinctive culture of the island also includes local and summer fetes, both modern and traditional, held every summer to the delight of tourists and locals alike.
